Initiatives to Foster Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Explore our NSF Broadening Participation in Engineering (BPE) initiatives designed to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in the engineering field. Workshops

Our NSF BPE workshops are immersive experiences that equip participants with the skills and knowledge to foster inclusive environments in academia and industry. These workshops cover a range of topics, including cultural competency, equity in education, and strategies for supporting underrepresented groups in STEM fields. Through hands-on activities, group discussions, and expert-led sessions, participants gain practical tools to implement change in their institutions and organizations.

2023 IMAP Summit

The iMAP Inclusive Mentoring Summit is a premier event dedicated to advancing inclusive mentoring practices in STEM fields. This summit features an outstanding lineup of speakers and facilitators, including Dr. Howard Adams, a renowned expert in mentoring, as the keynote speaker. Catherine Meyn of the Society of Women Engineers, Victor Gavin, CEO of Gavin Consulting, Dr. Rochelle Williams, Chief Program Officer of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and Dr. Rhonda Franklin, McKnight Presidential Endowed Professor at the University of Minnesota, will share their insights and lead discussions. Together, they will explore strategies for fostering inclusive environments, empowering underrepresented groups, and enhancing mentoring effectiveness across academia and industry . Click here >>>

March 2024 Unlocking Inclusive Mentoring Workshop

The March 2024 Unlocking Inclusive Mentoring Workshop, led by Dr. Steve Efe, brought together faculty and professionals from Morgan State University and Illinois University for a transformative experience focused on enhancing mentoring practices. This workshop provided participants with the tools and strategies needed to foster inclusive mentoring relationships that support the success of underrepresented groups in academia. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, attendees learned how to create more equitable and supportive environments for their mentees, with a strong emphasis on cultural competency and effective communication.  Click here >>>
